From Kenya to Indonesia, from the Caribbean to the shores of Bermuda, November 4th, 2008 is a date that will forever be etched in our minds, not just as Americans but the world as a whole. The mood in much of the stadiums even though the victory was contrary to “neck and neck”, was one of fierce anticipation of the election results. After months of tireless campaigning and weathering the onslaught of accusations thrown at him by the opposition a calm, passionate speaking Barack Obama climbed the stairs to the stage where for the first time he would address the world as President-Elect Barack Obama.
The mood was bitter sweet with him referring to his grandmother who sadly passed days before, but became lighter as he remarked jokingly about his daughters getting a new puppy as a present to take with them to The White House. Jesse Jackson, Oprah Winfrey and a slew of stars were in attendance at the now famed Grant Park in Chicago, but for a moment in time they stood shoulder to shoulder with the working class from all different backgrounds and ethnicities.
