REGGAE EMPRESS ETANA’S DEBUT ALBUM “THE STRONG ONE” IN STORES TODAY SEE WHAT THE CRITICS ARE SAYING... Reminiscent of India.Arie, the Jamaican-born, Miami-raised singer/songwriter’s poetic consciousness amid soul-stirring grooves rivals that of gifted neo-soulsters. Uplifting songs such as the socially-charged “Wrong Address” and “Roots,” are infectious and empowering.Essence.com, June 17th, 2008
“Etana is emerging as a talented songwriter who can effortlessly mix reggae, jazz, gospel and R&B styles while holding them all together with her dusky soulful voice… Etana inserts her uniquely sunny self into the narrative, making any song she touches instantly recognizable as hers."Global Rhythm, July 20008
“Etana has been around for a little while now, dropping fulsome and soulful voicings on a variety of riddims…. This album is worthy of such high praise at least in part because it's important to remember that syrupy love songs have as much of a place in Jamaican culture and the dance itself as conscious or badman tunes.”Pitchfork, May 14th, 2008
“Right now, she's the Jamaican equivalent of an India.Arie. Her lyrics are a refreshing push against the mainstream, and the musicianship behind them is strong and original enough that her songs can't be denied.”New Times, May 22nd, 2008
“On stage she exudes a regal bearing and the attitude of a diva; her live stage presence commands attention.”Jamaicans.com, May 30th, 2008
“At 23, she has already established herself as a formidable performer and songwriter whose music and reputation precedes her.” December 2007 Wrong Address picked as “Song to Download”… a heartbreaking acoustic reggae lament about a woman who gets rejected for a job because she comes from the wrong hood."Spin, December, 2007
